A deduction that lets you transfer unlimited tax-free assets to your spouse, provided that the person transferring the assets is a U.S. citizen. The deduction still applies to a surviving spouse at the time of death of the other spouse. If the surviving spouse is not a U.S. citizen, he or she must obtain the assets through a Qualified Domestic Trust.
